need a good diesel mechanic for my 82 VW Westfalia - a biodiesel-friendly one would be a bonus. Any recommendations?

Tom & Margie at the Art of Maintenance on MLK are awesome; so awesome, in fact, that when the engine on my 77 MB went "poof", they referred me to Steve Sr. @ Omega Motors.

He's excellent as well, but has been working primarily w/Benz's for the last 40 years.

Tom & Margie do great work @ reasonable prices, and won't do any 'extra' work w/out permission. They are terrific at really leveling with their Customers.

I live in SW Portland, but go to Aloha to have my Diesel Rabbit worked on by M&M Automotive. They work on VWs exclusively, are HONEST, do good work for a reasonable price, and are biodiesel friendly. The only drawback is their location, but its hard to find an honest mechanic, so the trip is worth it for me personally.
